THE DISSOLUTION OF A COUNTRY AS A FACTOR INITIATING NATIONAL AND STATE BUILDING (ON THE EXAMPLE OF SOUTH OSSETIA)

Abstract:

The article is devoted to the study of the concept of national-state construction and, above all, the formation of new states. This content is becoming increasingly relevant from a scientific and socio-political perspective. At the current stage, various regions of the world are witnessing active processes of national-state consolidation, which could potentially lead to the emergence of new independent territories on the political map. These include the northern regions of Kosovo, Kurdistan, Cyrenaica, South Yemen, and others. These processes are associated with the activation of the phenomenon of ethnicity or nationality, which forms the basis of the so-called «ethnic renaissance,» accompanied by a sharp increase in demands for ethno-national self-determination, self-governance within existing states, or secession and the formation of a new independent state. As recent events show, national-state processes in the world are on the rise, and the global community will inevitably continue to face new demands for selfdetermination. In this regard, the causes and factors of the intensification and resilience of national-state processes in regions where they lead to the formation of new viable states, such as Kosovo, South Ossetia, Abkhazia, and Transnistria, are of particular relevance. It is obvious that these factors have both a temporary, opportunistic, and long-term nature. Moreover, these factors can be both external to the national-state processes and simultaneously determined and supported by internal factors related to the historical, political, and economic development of a particular ethno-national community. It should be emphasized that this combination of factors of various orders also significantly contributed to the intensification of national-state processes in the Republic of South Ossetia during the period of the collapse of the USSR and subsequent nation-building.
