A SYSTEM OF KEY AXIOLOGEMS IN KARACHAY-BALKAR NON-RITUAL SONGS.

Abstract:
This article presents an analysis of Karachay-Balkar historical and heroic songs from the XIVth to XXth centuries, classified as works of non-ritual poetry in terms of genre and style. Specific research material includes song lyrics about Tamerlane the Conqueror; the social and class inequality of peasants and exploiters; epidemic diseases (plague, cholera); interethnic conflicts; the events of the Great Patriotic War; the deportation of Karachays and Balkars in 1943-1957; and the ideals of the Soviet era. A distinctive feature of this article is its focus not so much on the specific events of historical and heroic songs, but on the results of popular reflection and a comprehensive understanding of the described events and facts from the perspective of humanistic philosophy. Using a continuous sample, component analysis, and systematization of all the studied lyric-epic material, a set of key axiologemes was identified that generally characterize the value-based worldview of the North Caucasus highlanders. These include «the priority of the spiritual over the material», «the principle of rational altruism», «a healthy conservatism in gender issues», «the absolutization of peaceful life», «the denial of military conflict», «the preservation of ethnic identity», «the cult of creative work», and «the vertical of the spirit». The theoretical significance of this article lies in its clarification of the semantic scope of the concept of «axiologem» as it applies to oral folklore. The practical value of this article lies in the fact that its materials can be used in courses on the history of Karachay-Balkar folklore in higher education. This material on the archetypal spiritual and moral values imprinted in folklore texts can also be effectively applied in the educational system of North Caucasian comprehensive schools.
