The article examines the characteristic features of the tower-type defensive structures with a rounded back, which are common in the eastern mountain and piedmont zones of the southern part of Ossetia-Alania. A number of scientists were interested in these monuments and they also expressed some ideas about the construction and dating of the towers with a rounded back. Nevertheless, the topic of towers with a rounded back is not sufficiently covered in scientific literature. The purpose of this work is to reveal a number of characteristic features of the towers with a rounded back as well as some traits, distinguishing these towers from rectangular towers, which have not previously been covered in scientific literature. Based on field materials for 2008-2024, the work presents data that reflect the peculiar architectural and construction features of this type of tower structures. Such characteristics as the uneven thickness of the front, side and rear rounded walls, the shape and location of the entrance opening, the arrangement of loopholes on the front wall, the use of anti-seismic structures, etc., will stand out. The data given in the work on the abovementioned towers in conjunction with their locations in gorges reveal the road map for the spread of towers with a rounded back, which are located on the historical territory of the Ossetians. The work also reflects the Ossetian myggags (families, clans), residents of corresponding regions, who were the owners of one or more towers with a rounded back. The problem in resolving the issue is that these defensive structures are mostly in a dilapidated or ruined state. Nevertheless, a number of assumptions were made on the basis of the given factual material. A map is attached at the end of the work, where the identified tower structures are marked with red columns.
