Abstract:
The issue of studying the natural potential of territories is always relevant in view of the constant supply of raw materials for further economic development, especially in the face of constant challenges that our country is currently facing. To be a self-sufficient state, independent of the geopolitical situation, capable of independently solving problems of an economic nature is a logical goal in the situation of severe sanctions on the international agenda. Rational attitude to one’s own natural resources, the use of the latest technologies, and the creation of a product that is «necessary for everyone» can become a good basis for social progress. In this sense, referring to the historical experience of the industrial development of the North Caucasus, its significant leap in the development of natural resources, studying the periods of ups and downs in this field will help in finding optimal areas of production activity. The purpose of the work is to identify the peculiarities of the influence of Russian industry on the processes of emergence and development of the oil production and refining industries of the Tersky region during the second half of the XIXth – early XXth centuries. The methodological basis is represented by comparative historical, system-structural and civilizational approaches. The research is based on the principles of historicism, integrity and objectivity. During the study of the problem, the following results were obtained: 1) the North Caucasus was considered as a territory with rich minerals necessary for the Russian economy; 2) the research of the Tersky region led to the discovery of the most valuable oil fields; 3) the industrial development of the region contributed to the emergence and further development of local industry, in particular, the oil production and refining industries; 4) the development of the oil industry complex based on the Grozny oil fields has had a positive impact on strengthening the position of the Russian economy in the world markets.
