Abstract:
The study of the processes of sociocultural transformation that constantly occur in different countries of the world is relevant in our time. Sociocultural transformation, as an objective, spontaneous and poorly managed social process, can lead to catastrophic consequences for a particular people or state. Archival documents from the first years of Soviet power allow us to trace how the socio-cultural transformation of the cities of Stavropol and Terek took place and how in a short time processes took place that radically changed society, which is the purpose of this publication. The objectives of the research include studying the ways, forms and results of sociocultural transformation in the North Caucasus in the 1920s. The research methods were the general principles of historicism, consistency, and objectivity. When studying historical narratives, methods and techniques of historical anthropology, new social history, and microhistory were used. In the contours of historical documents of Stavropol and Terek in 1917-1929. you can see a reflection in the fates of ordinary people of numerous transformations of Soviet power – war communism, surplus appropriation, NEP, the introduction of labor conscription, and other measures of Soviet modernization. The mechanisms of the new sociality are political loyalty, adherence to new rituals and holidays, participation in political and other actions. New ethical standards are rapidly emerging in society, which do not always coincide with universal human values. Controlling the consciousness of the urban population through the promotion of new ideas through education, the organization of Soviet rituals, and an antireligious campaign, set the goal of forming a “new” Soviet person. Penetrating into all spheres of life and filling everyday life, directly influencing simple human needs for food, housing, clothing, self-presentation, etc., the transformation processes changed Russian society as a whole.
Keywords: the first years of Soviet power, sociocultural transformation, «letters to power», anti-religious propaganda.
