Kavkaz Forum. 2024. Issue 17. Abstract: The article deals with the problems of exhibiting monuments of material heritage in the museum space, analyzes the mobility of Caucasian women, as well as various women’s socio-cultural practices in public space. Extensive research on gender issues allows us to speak about the relevance of the issues discussed. The main purpose of the work is to problematize the boundaries of women’s mobility, which went beyond the home. The first part of the article analyzes the issue of female mobility, which is the main theoretical task of the work. The second part of the article is devoted to the discussion of both the social status of the Caucasian woman and the status of the space itself – urban and traditionally rural. These topics form the practical task of the article, which consists in reconstructing a conditional historical epoch through a subject thematic series. To achieve this goal and solve problems, the authors used the principles and methods of the anthropology of movement, which allows us to consider in a new way certain phenomena in different historical periods - from antiquity to the present, as well as the theory of social space by Pierre Bourdieu. The conducted studies demonstrate that the Caucasian woman was included in the public space and took an active part in family, tribal, and quarterly ritual practices. In addition, the courtesy visits made by women were an integral part of their daily lives. When considering the traditional rural (mountain) and urban space, the article draws attention to the specific elements of their differences. Museum exposure allows you to demonstrate through the subject range the features of both types of social space. Keywords: Caucasus, women’s mobility, museum, museum space, exhibition.
