Abstract: This article presents a comparative analysis of the vocabulary of the Ossetian and Spanish languages, revealing lexical similarities and differences between these two linguistic systems. It describes the history of the formation of the Ossetian and Spanish languages. This work also examines the historical background to the emergence of similarities and differences between the Spanish and Ossetian languages, which are associated with a complex set of factors: geographic, cultural, and linguistic. This focus is on Sarmatian-Iberian contacts, which determined the relationship between the Ossetian and Spanish languages. This, in turn, allows us to discuss Ossetian-Spanish lexical similarities. The article includes a table, which, based on the works of the eminent Ossetian and Russian linguist and Iranianist V.I. Abaev’s works («Historical and Etymological Dictionary of the Ossetian Language», «Selected Works: General and Comparative Linguistics») present examples of several Ossetian-Spanish isoglosses, suggesting a genetic relationship between Spanish and Ossetian, despite significant differences. Latin serves as a unifying linguistic link, drawing a lexical parallel between Ossetian and Spanish. The main part of the article describes examples of words in Ossetian, Latin, and Spanish that, while undergoing territorially determined changes, share similarities in meaning. The topic of comparative language research is quite relevant and is of interest to linguists. Many scholars have devoted their work to a comparative analysis of Ossetian with Russian, English, French, and Persian. The scientific novelty of this work is obvious, since a comparative analysis of the vocabulary of the Spanish and Ossetian languages has not been conducted previously.
