POZHIDAEV (1879-1965): MUSEUM ACTIVITY AT THE NORTH CAUCASUS INSTITUTE OF LOCAL LORE IN THE 20S OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY Gostieva, Larisa K. Kavkaz Forum. 2025. Issue 24. Abstract: The article highlights for the first time the museum and scientific activities of V.P. Pozhidaev at the North Caucasus Institute of Local Lore in the 20s of the twentieth century. It also highlights his participation in the commission for the protection of cultural treasures in the city of Vladikavkaz and in the development of a project to transform the Terek Regional Museum into a «House of Science and Local History» which preceded the establishment of the North Caucasus Institute of Local History (NCIL) and the Scientific Museum in the city in 1920. The article also examines V.P. Pozhidaev’s work in creating the exhibition of the ethnographic subdivision of the anthropo-geographical department during the museum’s reorganization in 1922–1923 and his work at the museum in subsequent years. Particular attention is given to the scientist’s participation in scientific expeditions to the North Caucasus in the early 1920s, including the Caucasian Expedition of the Commission for the Study of the Tribal Composition of the Population (KIPS) at the Academy of Sciences (led by N.F. Yakovlev), the North Caucasian Expedition of the State Academy of the History of Material Culture (GAIMK) (led by A.A. Miller), and the ethnological and archaeological expedition to survey the Koban, Dargav, Saniban, Kurtatin, and Alagir Gorges of North Ossetia (led by L.P. Semenov). Reference is made to V.P. Pozhidaev’s practical classes with students on «Ethnography of the Caucasus» at the museum and his delivery of thematic lectures to museum visitors. A conclusion is drawn about V.P. Pozhidaev’s significant contribution to the development of museum activities in the field of Caucasian and Ossetian studies. Keywords: V.P.
