Kavkaz Forum. 2025. Issue 24. Abstract: This article examines some of the key indicators of agriculture in the North Ossetian ASSR in 1958 and 1961. The article aims to analyze the initial period of the seven-year plan in the Republic. Comparative and statistical research methods are used in the work. The initial stage of the period under review is determined by the end of the sixth five-year plan, and 1961 is an appropriate year to consider the primary results of the seven-year plan in the republic. The material presented in the article, presented in tables, is considered in a comparative manner, where the numerical indicators of land funds and their use by both collective and state farms of all levels, as well as the population of the republic during the specified period are compared. This comparison allows us to identify quantitative changes in the composition of the land fund. Data is provided on shown areas (state and collective farms) and population. An analysis of the dynamics of agricultural transformation is conducted, with an emphasis on production processes in the considered time. Gross agricultural harvest data were used to assess qualitative characteristics. For a more objective assessment, data for 1959 and 1960 are provided. Reviewing and comparing this gross harvest data will, in turn, allow for a qualitative comparison of land use by the state and the population. The relevance of this study stems from the understudied nature of this research topic and the need for a comprehensive study of the Soviet period in the history of the North Ossetian ASSR and the impact of domestic policy in the USSR on the lives of the region’s population. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the integration of previously unused archival materials into scholarly discourse. The results demonstrate that despite changes in the structure of cultivated areas, they did not significantly impact the relevant indicators.
