Abstract:
Exhibitions have extensive opportunities to educate the population regarding
scientific and technical achievements in various sectors of the economy. Today,
exhibition activities are of particular interest, since the state has updated the idea
of cohesion in society around the main national achievements, presented at the
unique exhibition-forum “Russia” at VDNKh the work of which is covered daily
in the media. After all, it is an exhibition that can most clearly and easily convey
certain ideas to the average person and demonstrate existing opportunities for
development. The constantly changing conditions characteristic of our time
were also characteristic of the period of the second half of the 19th – early 20th
centuries, when, as a result of post-reform modernization, the usual models of
social and economic behavior underwent significant changes, and new realities
required a revision of outdated value-normative foundations, pushed to search
for new opportunities. Being the main occupation of the inhabitants of the Terek
region, agriculture could provide such an opportunity. However, to successfully
realize oneself in various branches of agriculture, sufficient knowledge in this
area was necessary. Agricultural exhibitions organized throughout the country
contributed to the dissemination of necessary knowledge and demonstrated how
it could be applied in practice. The purpose of the work is to identify the role of
agricultural exhibitions in the development of agriculture in the Terek region in the
conditions of transformations in the second half of the 19th - early 20th centuries.
The methodological basis is represented by comparative historical, systemic
structural and civilizational approaches. The research is based on the principles
of historicism, integrity and objectivity. In the course of studying the problem, the
following results were obtained: 1. The dissemination of agricultural knowledge
and the promotion of agricultural activities contributed to the development of
agricultural sectors in the Terek region. 2. Agricultural exhibitions experimentally
and demonstratively conveyed to the population the possibilities of advanced
achievements in agricultural methods and demonstrated the economic
capabilities of successful agricultural enterprises. 3. Agricultural exhibitions acted
as an effective mechanism for the development of agriculture and attracting the
population to this sector of the economy in the Terek region.
