THE SOCIO-POLITICAL LIFE OF NORTH OSSETIA IN 1945-1953 (ACCORDING TO THE DOCUMENTS OF THE STATE ARCHIVE OF THE MODERN HISTORY OF THE RNO-ALANIA)

Abstract:
The study of the history of the USSR in the first post-war years is one of the
priorities of the latest domestic historiography of the Soviet society. Scientists, in
the regions as well, focus on a wide range of poorly studied topics - mobilization
and repressive campaigns, public sentiment, post-war social policy, etc. A
comprehensive study of these complex problems involves researchers turning
to party documents, which, although they have a pronounced ideological
orientation, have a great information potential. First of all, we are talking about
protocol and reporting and information documentation. This paper analyzes
the information and analytical materials from the funds of the State Archive of
the Modern History of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The authors assess
the possibilities of their use to study various aspects of the socio-political life of
the North Ossetian ASSR during the period of «late Stalinism». The authors focus
on the reflection in the documents of the party record-keeping of the election
campaigns of the post-war period, the issues of the authorities’ struggle with
religious activity of the population and trends in the development of ideological
processes in the region. The results of the study suggest that a significant set of
materials has been deposited in the funds of the GANI RSO-A, allowing to identify
the reaction of the population of the republic to the activities of the party and
the government in the socio-economic sphere (for example, the abolition of
the card system, the monetary reform of 1947, etc.), to trace the mechanism of
preparation and conduct of election campaigns in the region to the Councils of
various levels, etc. Of considerable interest are a layer of documents of the North
Ossetian Regional Committee of the CPSU (b) related to the celebration of the
25th anniversary of the autonomy of North Ossetia. This anniversary, judging by
archival sources, has become a truly national holiday of the first post-war years.
