THE MAIN DIRECTIONS OF SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITY OF L.A. CHIBIROV

Abstract:
The article considers the activities of L.A. Chibirov for the previous five years
in such important areas of Ossetian studies. as ethnology, Nart studies, history,
source studies and literary criticism. The ethnological direction in the scientific
work of the scientist, presented by the second edition of the monograph
«Settlements and dwellings of the Ossetians», is considered. Chibirov’s
monograph «Ossetian Nartiada. Mythological Origins and Areal Relations» (in
Russian and English) and two volumes of the three-volume «Encyclopedia of the
Ossetian Nartiada», the editor-in-chief of which is Chibirov. Both publications
reflect the direction of the Narts’ studies in the scientist’s activities, they are
important stages in the history of Ossetian and Narts’ studies. The historical
direction in Chibirov’s scientific activity is indicated, which is reflected in the 2nd
edition of the collective monograph in two volumes «History of Ossetia». The
scientist is a co-author of the second chapter of the first volume, which deals
with the traditional social and spiritual culture of the Ossetians. The source
study direction in Chibirov’s scientific activity is noted, which was developed in
the published three-volume collection «South Ossetia. Formation of the State»,
compiled by the scientist. It is indicated that the collection includes documents,
articles, speeches, reflecting the most important period in the modern history of
South Ossetia from 1993 to 2001. The works of Chibirov in the literary direction,
dedicated to the famous artist and public figure Grigory Kotaev and the
outstanding poet, translator, publicist and literary critic Georgy Bestauta, are
studied. The conclusion is made about the colossal work done by the scientist
during the period under review.
